Our Investment in Entro Security

One thing is for certain in cybersecurity: there’s always another attack surface developing. The continued growth in adoption of cloud service and hybrid systems, DevOps automations, and IoT devices has led to an explosion authentication and authorization transactions between machines. Every one of those transactions is an opportunity for compromise making these non-human identities and their associated secrets – i.e., API keys, tokens, certificates, passwords – an attractive target for nefarious actors.

The Challenge

Managing non-human identities and secrets is challenging at an enterprise scale. Security professionals have to take into account a complex matrix of diverse environments, ephemeral identities, and privileged access. And it’s an area that is often hampered by lower visibility and monitoring capabilities than other flavors of cybersecurity. A single cybersecurity solution that is proficient at discovering, identifying, cataloging, and ultimately, protecting and rotating non-human identities at enterprise scale did not exist.

The Challengers

Itzik Alvas spent five years leading engineering and information security at Maccabi Healthcare Services, the second-largest managed healthcare system in Israel. From there, he led security and compliance for Microsoft Defender for Cloud (fka Azure Defender). He has spent nearly a decade defending against increasingly sophisticated attacks on integrated and automated systems. That experience has given him firsthand experience living with the shortcomings of current cybersecurity platforms in this regard. So, he and Adam Cheriki, an early engineer at Javelin Networks (acquired by Symantec), co-founded Entro Security. They, along with their team, are building a platform for practitioners by practitioners that addresses the increasing security threat to machine-to-machine interactions.

Entro Security provides comprehensive life cycle management of non-human identities and secrets from detection to rotation. Because they’ve lived the challenges they’re building to address, Itzik and Adam understand which pain points are the most critical to address right now. They also have an inherent sense of what headaches will likely to develop in the near and long term. Their progress hasn’t gone unnoticed by customers or analysts. In two years, Entro has earned enviable customer logos (see: Elastic, SolarWinds, Nasuni) and is one of the fastest companies to go from formation to a Gartner COOL VENDOR in the history of that program.

Our Investment

We led Entro Security’s Series A because we have deep conviction that Itzak, Adam, and their team are building an enduring platform to meet the cybersecurity needs of enterprise-scale companies today and into the future. They’ve got authentic empathy for CISOs, especially those charged with keeping critical services secure.
