LayerX: Securing Work Where it Happens
The world was forever changed in 1990 when Tim Berners-Lee introduced WorldWideWeb, the first-ever web browser. It created instant access to an unprecedented amount of information. Back then, we mostly used browsers to access an early collection of technical sites and internet directories. It was sleepy days on the web. But the more people began communicating, shopping, banking, and working online, the more attractive it became for hackers to exploit.
Across the enterprise, employees are spending several hours a day on average working via a browser interface. In some cases, they’re using sanctioned browsers on provisioned hardware. But often, employees work with the device and software that is most efficient for the task at hand. Defaulting to a tech path of least resistance compounds existing challenges such as BYOD, cloud migration, and distributed workforces that were already keeping CISOs up at night.
Enter LayerX, an Israeli cybersecurity team that’s built a browser security platform that protects work wherever work gets done. Founders Or Eshed and David Vaisbrud recognized that as the browser was becoming the main workspace for the enterprise, it required a solution that was both robust and flexible and would cover emerging exposures like employees’ use of LLMs. And that solution needed to meet the workforce where they were at – every device, every browser.
The LayerX team has a deep background in security and in building businesses around cybersecurity technologies. The company’s leadership team has complemented years of R&D work in the IDF with decades spent at both early-stage cyber startups and in house AI and security roles at global electronics and financial enterprise companies. Their approach to product plus experience has already garnered the company interest from Fortune 100 customers.
We joined our friends at Glilot+ with this Series A investment in LayerX because we believe the LayerX approach hits the sweet spot between enterprise productivity and protection. There’s no upside to being overly dogmatic about the tools employees use to get their work done. Better to create a platform that covers more bases and provides strong analytics and protection. We also believe that if LayerX gets this right, there will be disruptive effects across the $75B in spending that happens across network security, cloud sec, endpoint, and email security today.
So join us in welcoming Or, David, and the entire LayerX team to the DTC fold. It’s an honor to support them on their journey. We look forward to big things to come from this team.
